What is a level? Why does this exist?

A level is used to measure angles. Generally used to find horizontal (90°) or vertical (0°). If you're hanging a picture on the wall and you want it "straight" meaning perfectly horizontal, you use a level to measure the angle until it is at 90°.

What is this app?

This app uses the accelerometer in your phone to determine the angle. It then displays the angle measured.

What is the History of this app?

It was originally released with Android 1.5 in 2009 to showcase a simple app that uses the sensors in the phone hardware.

What can we do?

Possible Directions

  1. Using Android Studio, update the app to modern Android.
  2. Are there more modern ways to build a level app? Such as with Flutter, Kotlin, etc.
  3. Can we clean up the source code? see the various open Issues.
  4. What do we name this new app?
  5. Can we minimize permissions needed for this app to run completely offline? Can we run it with no permission?
